Summer Celebration to mark the 40th Anniversary of DACHSER UK
Life Begins at 40! This was the slogan for the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of DACHSER opening in the UK.
On Saturday, 27th June, colleagues from DACHSER UK’s branches in Northampton, Rochdale and Dartford came together for a family fun day with entertainment and refreshments at the Northampton Logistics Centre.
Whilst the occasion was predominantly an event for UK staff and their families, guests from DACHSER’s head office in Germany as well as a few long-standing hauliers and business partners were also present. It was also a pleasure to welcome the original Managing Director, David Stephenson, and Finance Director, David Fitzhugh, who helped establish DACHSER’s organisation in the UK in 1975.
Outdoor celebrations
Although the official anniversary was in January, the outdoor celebrations were planned for June in the hope of good weather. Luckily, conditions were perfect for everyone to enjoy the outdoor entertainment including bouncy castles, face painting, a vintage photo booth complete with 1970’s themed props, and even a rodeo sheep!
Music for the day was provided by DACHSER Northampton’s Inbound Manager and resident DJ, Neil “Superman” Peace!
In addition to the entertainment, guests were able to sample a variety of food ranging from a hog roast to fish and chips and afternoon tea. This was complemented by refreshments, including a beer that had been specially brewed for the occasion called “DACHSER Vierzig” (vierzig is German for 40) and fruit punch for the children. In addition, there was a range of sweet treats for children and adults alike, including popcorn, ice cream and candy floss.
Opportunity to get together
Nick Lowe, Managing Director DACHSER UK, took to the stage for a welcoming address followed by a speech from Wolfgang Reinel, Managing Director European Logistics North Central Europe at DACHSER. Mr Reinel’s speech also included an interview with Colin Raper, DACHSER UK’s longest serving member of staff who also joined in 1975, and, although now officially retired, still works for the Company on a part-time basis. The audience was fascinated by Colin’s stories about the early years of DACHSER UK.
The event was a rare opportunity for staff and their families to get together with colleagues and friends from all three UK branches. The warm sunshine, delicious food and great entertainment ensured that everyone enjoyed celebrating DACHSER UK’s 40th anniversary.
